School Safety and Emergency Procedures

Keeping our Staff and Students Safe
School Safety and Emergency Procedures

Each school site has a plan with specified roles and responsibilities for handling various types of emergencies.

Specific safety procedures will be followed, depending on the type of emergency. Below is information about what procedures we use in each type of emergency. Every situation is unique, so school staff may adjust their response to address student safety first.

A school implements one of the following procedures from the in response to a safety issue or emergency:

HOLD
This protocol is used to keep the hallways clear of occupants. This may be due to a medical or other emergency, allowing the affected individuals to receive prompt and private care.

SECURE
When a secure campus is implemented, students and staff remain in classrooms behind locked doors, and school continues as normal.

LOCKDOWN
During a lockdown, students and staff remain in classrooms behind locked doors, staying quiet, low and out of sight. Windows and blinds are closed. Lights are turned off. A school building may go into lockdown when there is a safety concern on campus or police activity in the community. A school is ordered into lockdown by either law enforcement or the school principal.

EVACUATE
A school building evacuation may occur in the event of a safety threat in which it would be safer for students and staff to be out of the building. Students are guided to an emergency assembly area.

SHELTER
A school may use "shelter-in-place" in case of hazardous materials being released into the atmosphere. Classroom heating and air vents are turned off and covered. Windows are closed.

OFF-SITE REUNIFICATION
In the rare instance that students are transported to an off-site location due to an emergency, 快播成人/caregivers will be notified of where and when to pick up your child. We will notify you using our emergency communication systems and the contact information you have previously provided to the school.

COMMUNICATION IN AN EMERGENCY
In the event of an emergency, SRVUSD will communicate information with 快播成人/caregivers using some or all of the following communication channels:
  • E-mail notifications
  • Text messages (if subscribed)
  • Announcements on the district website

NOTIFICATIONS FROM SRVUSD
  • You must have accurate and updated email and/or cell phone numbers in the district's database to ensure that you receive all messages. Note: families that have 'opted out' of receiving Catapult communications will not receive emergency messages.

  • In the event of an emergency DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL OR DISTRICT OFFICE. We will send both a text and email through our alert system (Catapult Connect) to send out a communication to 快播成人/caregivers.

  • Each emergency presents a unique set of variables, which will be evaluated prior to any message sent out. Those variables include nature of emergency, time of emergency, estimated duration of emergency, direction given by law enforcement and emergency services agencies, and impact on immediate safety of students and staff. The District's highest priority is to first evaluate and respond to the emergency and ensure the immediate safety of students and staff, and then to notify 快播成人/caregivers as the individual emergency dictates.

  • Staff will be notified through their district email account by their Principal/Manager or the district.

  • Parents/caregivers are notified by email and/or text. The accuracy of Catapult Connect is dependent on making sure all information is up-to-date in the school district's database. Any adjustments in your contact information can be made by contacting your local school. It is important to keep your contact information up-to-date at all times, even changes in email addresses.
