INDEPENDENT STUDY PE
Independent Study in Physical Education (ISPE) is an option to complete physical education credits approved by the San Ramon 快播成人 Unified School District. ISPE affords students the opportunity to extend physical education learning activities beyond the school campus and regular school hours. ISPE allows the student advanced study in activities not normally available in the District’s physical education program. All students must work 1 on 1 with a certified coach and meet one of the following criteria:
-
Student is an exceptionally gifted athlete who is competing at the regional, state, or national competition level within the school year in an individual sport. No team sports are permitted.
-
Student has an impacted schedule due to a special academic support program.
-
Student wishes to take an advanced level PE program that the school is not offering.
NOTE:
-
Students must apply to participate in ISPE. Applications will be available early in the spring semester.
-
Students must meet for at least 400 minutes every 10 days with a certified coach that has liability insurance. The coach cannot be a parent.
-
Students will be responsible for setting goals with the coach, reflecting on these goals, and keeping a time log. There will be a designated ISPE coordinator at each school who will review these documents.
-
Grades will be pass/fail.
-
Students in grade 7 or 9 who take ISPE are required to complete the Fitnessgram Tests* in the spring (per Ed Code). Families will receive an email in the spring regarding testing information.
-
*The 2021 Fitnessgram was not be administered due to Covid-19 restrictions. Therefore, this test was not be factored into the application evaluation for the 2021-2022 school year.

-
ISPE counts as one of the courses in a student’s schedule. It must be either the first or last period of the day. Students may not be on campus during this time due to lack of supervision for students in an unscheduled period.
-
A high school student choosing to participate in ISPE must choose a 6 or 7 period day. ISPE may NOT be taken as an 8th class.
-
A middle school student choosing to participate in ISPE must choose a 6 period day.
-
MARCHING BAND
Students participating in Marching Band may earn 5 physical education credits each semester. Students do not need to complete an application to receive the credit. Students should talk to their Marching Band teacher in the fall for more information.
